  • Highest Klapotetz - the landmark of the Styrian wine country

The Klapotetz, once used as a traditional bird deterrent in the vineyards of Styria, has become an unmistakable symbol of the region. The characteristic rattling sound, produced by the unique combination of different types of wood, was already a tried and tested aid in viticulture in Archduke Johann's time.

The highest Klapotetz in the world is located on the Demmerkogel in St. Andrä near Höch. With an impressive height of 16 meters, a weight of six tons and a wing circle with a diameter of 13 meters, it is an absolute highlight for visitors. While the local birdlife may already be used to the mighty rattling, its attraction to tourists remains unbroken.

Traditionally, the "Klapotetz season" begins on July 25, the feast of St. James, and ends in November on St. Martin's Day. Today, the Klapotetz is not only a tribute to the winemaking tradition, but also a popular excursion destination for wine lovers and culture enthusiasts.

Visit the highest Klapotetz in the world and immerse yourself in the history and customs of the Styrian wine country!
